500 together is a Sheffield based fundraising group aiming to gather together 500 generous people who are willing to donate £1 a week
Each week, anyone from the group can nominate an individual, family or organisation in need of help, to be the beneficiary of up to £500.
Our aim is to help everyday causes, and offer a helping hand to someone who needs it. It’s a simple idea but one that can make a world of difference!
Sometimes it is hard to imagine what £500 can do. It can’t solve all the problems people face, but it can really ease the pressure, buy a bit of time to re-group and help that individual, family or charity feel supported.
We have donated to several local charities, including ‘Always An Alternative’ a non-profit organisation that aims to reduce serious youth violence in Sheffield. We donated £300 to the knife amnesty scheme.
We have donated to individuals, for example, a local man who came into a Sheffield food bank desperate for help. He had lost his job, was unwell and had just moved into a barely furnished flat. We donated £350 via the food bank to help him buy a fridge and cooker.
We have donated to families, including a woman who lost her husband in a motorbike accident and was finding life tough. She and her three children really welcomed the 500 together donation of £150 of supermarket vouchers.

You can put a nomination in at any time.
Our aim is to help people or small organisations/charities who need help urgently. Think you’ve got one?
There is a small core volunteer admin group that consider the nominations. We have various day jobs; a clinical psychologist, two civil servants, a social worker, a carer and a health researcher. We try to direct funds where it is most needed.
We may ask nominators for more information. If your nomination is not successful, you can try again.
